Here's a top lesson in knowing what you have on offer to sell ... and how to sell it well.

Look around your shop and figure out what you have to sell that is valuable, rare, hard to copy and unique.


Tell-tale signs of these are whether:
  1. your customers are prepared to pay high prices for your goods and services,
  2. they are prepared to travel long distances to get to your shop,
  3. you have a very special skill, and
  4. your products are made from extremely special ingredients.

We journeyed to Mildura in the far north-west of Victoria to sample Stefano de Pieri's famous (and expensive) degustation menu ... and it was wonderful ... (blog continues below image)

But when we booked in to stay at Brisbane's tallest hotel, we couldn't get to the top (and we asked ... there wasn't a public viewing platform) ... ​(blog continues below image)

So the lesson for retailers and other people in business: look around, know what you've got, what people want, what they're prepared to pay for, and ...

If what you have is valuable, rare, hard to copy and unique ... put a price on it and sell it.
